The Cotton Bowl

Ok, so I just did some research.  The city of Dallas spent $57 million on renovating the Cotton Bowl.  While I am not excited about the final score of the OU Texas game, but I can honestly say that my opinion would not have changed in the least if the score had been different.  I have been to multiple games in the Cotton Bowl in the last several years and I believe that I can say that this one was the worst!  And that’s saying a lot considering the last time I was there the women’s bathrooms were out of order for half of the stadium!

This year was just terrible.  While there was so much money spent renovations, we apparently forgot that the Bowl looks rundown.  And it still does.  You know how awesome those huge big screens are in stadiums?  Well, I’m told there was one in the stadium but you sure couldn’t see a bit of it from where we were.  But that’s ok!  Not everyone can see the screen all the time.  I know that.  But, the smaller screens that were placed around the stadium are impossible to see during the day because of the glare.  And to top it all off, you know when those crazy refs make terrible calls and it just ticks everyone off?  Apparently there were several really bad calls in the Red River Rivalry.  Well, if you were in the lower deck, you never had a clue what any of the calls were.  The wonderful renovations have made it so it is impossible to hear what the announcer says.  That was good times too.  I had to do research when I got home just to see what actually happened in the game!

Now, I say all this because the stadium itself sucks.  Don’t get me wrong.  The game was great!  I’m glad I got to go!  We had a blast and I even saw my wife cheer for OU at one point!  That’s a big step in the right direction!  I’m just not sure what Dallas was thinking when they approved these renovations.  I think its time to move the game to a new stadium.  (And I wouldn’t be opposed to a place with fewer seats so we can make some more money from the tickets we can use…but that’s just me being selfish)

5 Weeks Of Craziness!

So we have now had 5 weeks of this madness we call college football!  It’s been rather odd several times.  Teams we all thought had very little chance of losing when we started out have failed miserably.  Teams that weren’t supposed to be that good are now climbing the charts!  Crazy I tell ya!  So here are the new polls and my take as well!

AP Top 10
1. Oklahoma

10. Georgia

As for me, I would like to say congrats to the SEC and Big 12 for not sucking so far.  We have barely even gotten to conference play and big teams are dropping like flies (because apparently flies drop).  Let’s all take a moment and welcome the OSU Cowboys to the Top 25!  It’s been a little while and we want to make them feel welcome…that is until they meet OU (’cause then I don’t want them to feel welcome anymore)!  Also, just a warning, I really have a problem putting 1 loss teams ahead of undefeated teams that are truly holding their own, but sometimes it just happens.

Week 4

So another week of football has gone by.  I wasn’t as excited about this past weekend because my boys had a bye, but there was still some good football.  Before I get to the Top 10 this week, I have a couple questions for you.

1. Will the West Virginia coach (that was their savior at the end of last season) still have a job by the end of the season?  While we’re at it, will he make it through the whole season?

2. Is there really a defense in the Big 12 that can stop a good passing attack?  (Don’t get me wrong, I love my Sooners, but they have been rather suspect in the secondary for the last several years.)

3. Is East Carolina done?

4. If OU and Georgia run the board, will USC get left out of the title game with a weak strength of schedule?

Ok.  Now on to the Top 10.

Ok, so I am ready to give Georgia some props.  They finally looked like a team that was worthy of a decent ranking last weekend.  But don’t get me wrong.  I only said some.  It was Arizona State for cryin’ out loud.  I guess this weekend we will really see how good they are.

4. LSU
5. Missouri

Yes I know that the bottom side of this changed dramatically, but I don’t care.  Texas still hasn’t played a college team (and I hate UT).  So there you have it.  Deal with it.  Bring on the thoughts!

Week 3 (I Know! Already!)

It’s crazy how time flies when you are having fun.  And yes, I know it seems like just yesterday that we finally kicked off the most… wonderful time… of the year (as sung to some goofy Christmas tune)… AKA college football season!  But as stated before, time flies when you are entirely too excited about college football (with the exception of the rest of the year when time seems to stand still because we are entirely too excited about the season to come).  And we have now made it through week 3 and the polls (which in my opinion don’t really mean squat and probably shouldn’t even come out until later in the year, like week 8 or something) so here are the newly updated polls with the addition of my own personal version of the Top 10!  Enjoy and tell me what you think!

Good Times, Good Times

So today is just one of those days.  Yes it is week three in the college football season and that is awesome.  But that’s not it.  Yes, it is my day off and so I got to sleep in.  But that’s not it.  Yes, I’m still in bed at the moment, under the fan and listening to he rain.  That’s not it either.  But, what makes this pretty much on of the best possible situations to be in on a Saturday is that my wife and I have slept in, are still in bed, are listening to the rain, and are watching college football!  I’m not sure it gets much better than that (without taking away the rain and being on the beach and listening to the waves instead of the rain… but that would be pretty ideal for me)!

Now granted I am pretty sure that my wife wouldn’t list the college football part as part of her ideal situation, but that’s ok.  It would probably be watching Beauty And The Beast or The Little Mermaid.  I mean come on.  You can’t really beat college football.

Well, she already went back to sleep again.  Still good times, though!

Boring!

Well, my wife informed me today that my blog was boring.  Too much football apparently.  I (personally…or male…ly) don’t see anything boring about it at all!  I like football.  Heaven forbid!  HA.  But I love her.  And she knows that.  So, today, I won’t take up too much of your time, but just wanted to say thanks to all of you that are praying for us.  We really appreciate it all!  Maybe one of these days we will be able to really let you know that, but for now, this may have to do.  Thank you so much!  We love you all!

Ah, Week 1 Polls!

And they are here!  The start of the craziest process in all of sports!  Don’t ask me how it works because it doesn’t make any sense to me either in the end.  Ok, so there were a few upsets.  Lots of blowouts.  Give me your thoughts?  Are the polls good at the moment?  Do we have the right teams on top?

It Is Finally Here!

Well, the new college football season has finally begun!  It has been a long time since the bowl games from last season and I am so pumped that I almost got up early this morning because I was so excited about it!  So it is here.  Football is on.  We were all concerned with what we would watch when the Olympics ended, but the answer has come!  COLLEGE FOOTBALL!  Woo!  Only problem is my boys are on pay-per-view.  What’s with that?  I don’t live in Sooner country.  I can’t just call a bunch of people to come over with a dollar and buy the game.  No.  I have to convince my wife its a good investment.  But she is an OSU fan.  And her team is on TV.  Seriously?  Wow.

So here’s the deal.  I’m gonna post the top 10 for the week.  You tell me what you think.  Is it right?  Who should be where?
