5 Weeks Of Craziness!

So we have now had 5 weeks of this madness we call college football!  It’s been rather odd several times.  Teams we all thought had very little chance of losing when we started out have failed miserably.  Teams that weren’t supposed to be that good are now climbing the charts!  Crazy I tell ya!  So here are the new polls and my take as well!

As for me, I would like to say congrats to the SEC and Big 12 for not sucking so far.  We have barely even gotten to conference play and big teams are dropping like flies (because apparently flies drop).  Let’s all take a moment and welcome the OSU Cowboys to the Top 25!  It’s been a little while and we want to make them feel welcome…that is until they meet OU (’cause then I don’t want them to feel welcome anymore)!  Also, just a warning, I really have a problem putting 1 loss teams ahead of undefeated teams that are truly holding their own, but sometimes it just happens.

Online At The Bank

One of the best stand ups that I have ever seen in my life is by Kevin James called Sweat The Small Stuff.  It is amazing.  Well, at least it is to me because it is basically everything that goes through my head too.  You should definitely watch it!  Anyway, one of the things that seems to bother him the most is standing online at the bank.  I think I understand the feeling.  Waiting can be one of the most difficult seasons to be in.  In the world that we live in, waiting is something that we minimize as much as possible.  Drive-thru, HOV lane, interstates, rush shipping, etc.  Why are we so opposed to waiting for things?  Scripture says in Isaiah 29:11-12,

“I know what I’m doing. I have planned it all out-plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future that you hope for. When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen.”

For those of us that have grown up in church, we have heard this verse all our lives.  I believe in this and pray this all the time.  Why doesn’t that make it easier?  I know that He will take care of us.  I know that he has everything planned out for the bet thing for me!  So why is it that even though we know this and pray this and speak it over our lives, we continue to question it?  The best case scenario is already planned out for us.  We just have to let Him lead us to it.  And it seems that many times, waiting is how we get there.

It doesn’t matter what the situation is.  It could be a job or house or relationship or family member, but ultimately God is in control.  I want to rest in that.  I want to stop trying to do things on my own and give Him control knowing that He already has the best planned for me!

The Best Blog Post Ever!

So what is it that makes a blog post great?  When looking back over the stats from my blog, I can see which posts were clicked on the most.  I am very intrigued by this.  Is there a pattern?  Do those that read my blog prefer a certain type of post from me?  Well, here are the top posts so far.

Week 3 (I Know! Already)

It Is Finally Here!

The Empty Space In My Head

Boring!

Top 10 Of Week 2

Of the top 5 posts (not counting the other pages because they apparently get more clicks than posts), 3 of them are directly about football.  One is about very nearly about football and the last one is about all the thoughts running through my head.  Week 3 (I Know! Already) got the most by far.  The other 4 are only separated by 1 click each.

So does that mean that my audience wants to hear about football?  Does that mean that the football posts were longer and had to be clicked on?  I don’t know.  So I ask you.  What makes a blog something of interest to you?  Is it the content?  Is it the author?  Is it catchy titles?  You tell me!

Week 4

So another week of football has gone by.  I wasn’t as excited about this past weekend because my boys had a bye, but there was still some good football.  Before I get to the Top 10 this week, I have a couple questions for you.

1. Will the West Virginia coach (that was their savior at the end of last season) still have a job by the end of the season?  While we’re at it, will he make it through the whole season?

2. Is there really a defense in the Big 12 that can stop a good passing attack?  (Don’t get me wrong, I love my Sooners, but they have been rather suspect in the secondary for the last several years.)

3. Is East Carolina done?

4. If OU and Georgia run the board, will USC get left out of the title game with a weak strength of schedule?

Ok.  Now on to the Top 10.

Ok, so I am ready to give Georgia some props.  They finally looked like a team that was worthy of a decent ranking last weekend.  But don’t get me wrong.  I only said some.  It was Arizona State for cryin’ out loud.  I guess this weekend we will really see how good they are.

Yes I know that the bottom side of this changed dramatically, but I don’t care.  Texas still hasn’t played a college team (and I hate UT).  So there you have it.  Deal with it.  Bring on the thoughts!

Week 3

Week 2

Week 1

Mr. & Mrs. HGTV

So my wife and I have been working on the house a lot recently.  Tearing down the back porch, repainting things, planting things, etc.  One evening we were working in the backyard, and our Hispanic neighbor came out and called us Mr. & Mrs. HGTV.  That was kinda funny.  I think he just forgot our names personally.  Today we were back at it again.  Can anyone explain to me why we paint our house multiple times?  I thought it looked great before.  I didn’t know that last time we painted we should have just kept going.  That’s how we spent our Saturday.  Granted, yes, I did get to watch half of the Ryder Cup and the Auburn LSU game,  So don’t think that I’m complaining.  If we ever decide to sell our house, I’m sure that it will be much more desirable (I hope) to those looking for a house.  I just have never understood it.

6 Degrees Of Separation

Ok, so I really don’t understand this.  Someone please explain it to me.  I have always wondered how this works.  You know those days when someone sends you a link to a video and tells you that “you just HAVE to watch this because it’s the best ever!”?  How is it that everyone seems to find the same video on the same day?  I don’t get it!  Sometimes there are obvious links between groups, but it still seems to happen from people from different backgrounds.  This has happened to me so many times I can’t even remember all the videos.  Take yesterday.  I got an email about a video first thing in the morning.  Good.  It was funny.  It was really really bad.  But then later on (several hours later mind you) I got another email from someone else on a different side of the US talking about the same video.  They hadn’t shared it with each other.  Not 5 minutes later I got another email telling me to watch the video, but at least this one was linked to the one from 5 minutes ago.  But that’s not it!  I then got it again from someone else several hours later.  This one could have been linked but I’m not sure.  Come on already!  It’s not a funny video anymore!

So, does anyone have a clue how this is possible?  Do that many random people just sit around looking at stupid videos on YouTube?  I didn’t realize that was a fun game.  Guess I’m missing out.  So, with all this, I figure I might as well link the videos on here so you all can see them too (as if you haven’t already gotten 12 emails about each one like me!).

This one is the best by far.  I watch it all the time!  It is so good!

This one is not as good.

She Said Don't Hand Me No Lines And Keep To Yourself

Ok.  I know that this is an unwritten rule, but I am not sure I understand it.  There are times that I agree, but sometimes I wonder.  Apparently there is a rule somewhere that when standing in line at places like the post office, Wal-Mart, subway, etc. you are not allowed to talk to the people around you.  Niceties are ok, but nothing more.  I just don’t understand the rule.  Why am I not allowed to join in with someone around me quoting funny movies?  I’m standing in like the other day and two guys are behind me quoting Billy Madison.  Funny movie.  Funny quotes.  Why can’t I join in with the funny lines that I know?  I could add to the laughter!  But no!  Not allowed!  What’s the deal with that?

But on the other hand, I hate it when I’m talking with my wife and someone joins our conversation.  6 of one, half a dozen of another.

Gotham City

I’m gonna be straight and to the point.  Here’s my question for you today.  Is there something corrupt in the judging in the Olympics (judges, French people, China)?  That’s it.  I have heard example after example and I am just curious to know what you think.

You want some examples?  Here’s a few that I know of.  I am sitting here watching the boxing at the moment and the coach just went off on how the judges are missing 8-10 points today against the American boxers.  I have heard the suggestion that the line for the floor exercise in gymnastics was moved in so that the Chinese would have an advantage while the rest of the world is used to a bigger square.  There is the accusation that the Chinese female gymnasts are underage (I wouldn’t argue that one).  Time after time during the gymnastics the announcers seemed perplexed trying to figure out how the Americans were consistently scored lower when their routines seemed better than others.
That’s just what I have heard.  Anyone else?  Is there actually something wrong here or are we just paranoid and think that everyone is out to get us?  You decide!
No way.

World Super Power!

Ok.  Can anyone explain to me how China can honestly believe that if their Olympic athletes win the most medals that they are the world’s super power????  I mean I would understand if they were saying that they were an athletic super power, but that isn’t what they said.  They said a world super power.  I mean come on.
That sure strikes fear into my heart!  (I must admit that I have no idea if this specific person is actually Chinese or not…he probably isn’t, but you get the point)  What are they gonna do?  Send the million man army to eat us to death really fast?  HA!  Well, it just doesn’t make sense to me.  And to top that off, how can you force your coaches to sign a contract that says they will not allow their athletes to get hurt?  Are you serious?  Wow.  Ok.  You tell me.  Which one is the picture of a possible world super power?
I mean that little girl bending backwards is a little freaky!
