Tina Palin…I Mean Sarah Fey…Wait

Ok, so I could babble for days about all this crap, but I’m gonna keep it short today (because I have so many thoughts about all this stuff and the candidates and running mates that it would be a really really long post and I want to spare you of that).  Normally, I get into the elections a good bit.  I usually end up staying up that night watching the votes come in and the states turn red or blue.  For some reason that makes for some good television.  But this time its different.  This time every time I try to watch I end up ignoring it or changing the channel or banging my head against the wall.  Why?  Why is it so hard this time around to pay attention?  My life has changed, yes, but in a direction that should cause me to want to pay attention more because now everything affects my wife who I am in charge of caring for!  But still!  It’s not that I don’t care.  I do.  I really do.  I’m not just complacent about this whole thing.  Are the candidates so boring that the only information I can glean from their debates and appearances is what SNL makes fun of?  That’s not good!  How did we get here?  This is a HUGE decision!  This impacts all of America (and the world for that matter) for the next 4 years!  Yet I still can’t bear to watch these people talk!  I have tried to watch at least 5 debates and town hall thingys, but I keep striking out!  That’s not good.  Is anyone else struggling with this?

Unemployed

So my wife and I are unemployed.  It brings a whole new meaning to trusting God.  We HAVE to.  Doesn’t mean it’s easy, but I know that He will take care of us.  He has a plan for us that is unfolding as we speak.

Unemployment is weird.  Quitting a job to be unemployed is even weirder.  But that’s ok.  We have lots to do.  California is ahead (Lord willing) with Texas in the rear view mirror.  Peace out, Texas!  Now we just have to sell our house to get the U-haul and the gas.  Please pray for that.  There are some great churches out in Orange County and we are hoping to find one that is home.

But for now, we are back to painting!  We are repainting the outside of our house (and not asking the home owners association…shhh…don’t tell) so that it will look all pretty for those coming to see it!  Woo hoo!  Come buy our house!

Aye Mate!

Well, here we are.  My wife and I are embarking on a new journey starting next week.  What’s that journey you ask?   Well, we don’t know.  But we do know this.  Sunday is our final Sunday at LifeChurch.tv.  Will there be LifeChurch.tv in our future again sometime?  I would like to think so, but I really don’t know.  For the last week or so we have tried to let everyone know (and we apologize if we haven’t been able to get in touch with you yet) but this Sunday is it!

Next week starts our new journey.  We are both looking for jobs now in our respective fields, but we want to move to California.  Get out of the Great Plains (which are still great, don’t get me wrong) and move to the west coast!  We don’t have much planned other than we feel strongly about heading that way.  Know anyone out there?  Know of a church that might need us?  We would love to know!  I know I haven’t blogged much over the last couple weeks, but we have had sooooooo much going on recently that the time hasn’t been there!  I will be more consistent soon I hope.

So there you go.  It is Friday, tomorrow is OU saxeT, Sunday is our last Sunday leading at LifeChurch.tv, the house is up for sale in one of the worst areas for selling, and we want to move out west!  I think that about sums it all up!  Please pray for us!  This is a big move!  We love you all!

Perfect Timing

It’s amazing how God helps us along.  He always seems to bring me just what I needed, exactly when I need it!  It’s just so cool.  When I was a first time youth pastor starting a youth ministry, I needed youth volunteers.  He brought me exactly how many I needed.  Most recently, God did something huge for me.  As we have lived in Fort Worth, we haven’t had a ton of people that we really deeply connected with.  Please don’t get me wrong friends because we really do love you, but there haven’t been many people that we do life with.  Yeah.  That’s what I mean.  That door hadn’t been opened much.  But in the last few months we started going to a new LifeGroup (aka small group or house church or home group or small home church group house).  Not knowing it at the time, but God provided the exact people around us to speak into our lives like not many others have been able to.  It has just been great.  I still can’t wrap my head around it all.   He knew what we would be going through and who would be the best people for us to have in our lives.  So thanks LifeGroup.  We love you guys!

(honestly I don’t know that any of our LifeGroup reads this…I guess we will find out)

The Best Blog Post Ever!

So what is it that makes a blog post great?  When looking back over the stats from my blog, I can see which posts were clicked on the most.  I am very intrigued by this.  Is there a pattern?  Do those that read my blog prefer a certain type of post from me?  Well, here are the top posts so far.

Week 3 (I Know! Already)

It Is Finally Here!

The Empty Space In My Head

Boring!

Top 10 Of Week 2

Of the top 5 posts (not counting the other pages because they apparently get more clicks than posts), 3 of them are directly about football.  One is about very nearly about football and the last one is about all the thoughts running through my head.  Week 3 (I Know! Already) got the most by far.  The other 4 are only separated by 1 click each.

So does that mean that my audience wants to hear about football?  Does that mean that the football posts were longer and had to be clicked on?  I don’t know.  So I ask you.  What makes a blog something of interest to you?  Is it the content?  Is it the author?  Is it catchy titles?  You tell me!

Can You Hear Me Know?

Well its been a few days since I updated you on my hearing.  I thought maybe it was time to do so!  I can hear again!  Woo hoo!  Crazy I know.  I love it again!  I can tell where sounds are coming from again!  It’s soo nice.  Anyway, I just wanted to fill you all in and say thanks to all of you who prayed for me!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

BS or WP? That Is The Question.

I’m pretty sure that Billy Shakespeare didn’t have a blog to ask his random questions on, but I do.  So I put it to you.  Which is better?   Blogspot or WordPress?  I don’t know.  So far here is what I have.  I don’t know that these are all true.  If they aren’t please correct me!  Also, please add to my list.  What else do I need to know?  What else should I look for?

Pros for BS.
- Very easy to use
- Easily uploaded templates
- Already on people’s blogrolls
- I like my template
Cons for BS.
- Everything on one page
- Very cookie cutter (even with my own template)
- Doesn’t track stats
- Can’t search blogs
Pros for WP.
- Multiple pages
- More unique to the page
- Tracks stats
- Easy to search
- Easy to import
Cons for WP.
- Can’t upload template (at least not that I can figure out)
- Cookie cutter
- Not as easy to use
- Setup of widgets is strictly run by templates.

Knowing When To Say When

As you may already know, I am a worship pastor.  One of my favorite things about working for LifeChurch.tv as a worship pastor is that I have the freedom to play what I want.  Of course, what songs go over well, songs that are rather new, songs that are singable, etc. goes into it as well, but I still get to choose.  That is great.  But one of the things that I think every church and worship pastor deals with is the question of how to get people to engage in the music we are doing.  Several of the things that I think help are songs that are singable, understandable, catchy, powerful, familiar as well as a band that believes what they are playing and singing.  Obviously as a worship pastor, this is something that we always strive for.  What are your thoughts?

What engages you into worship?
What songs really help you worship?
How long does it take you to learn a new song?
How long does it take before you are tired of hearing a given song on a weekend?

Blogging For Dummies

So, as I have stated before, I am new to this whole concept.  So far I seem to like it.  But the jury is still out and deliberating.  I think I wanna make this thing my own style and look and not just a cookie cutter template.  How do I do that?  I think if this looked more like me or my page or something like that I would get into it a little more.  I have no idea what I’m doing.  I guess I will have to find some other people that do this and know what they are doing so they can help me make it cool.  I have apparently missed the class that everyone else took that told you what an RSS feed is and how to use it.  I skipped the day that they talked about templates and layouts.  Help?  Can someone out there help a brotha out?
